The latest Ferrari 458 Italia prototype, an official car for a luxury group, was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in June by Ferrari’s global partner, and may not be the all-electric vehicle the French outfit has been chasing for more than five years now.

Speaking as he approached his car’s final production run at the end of June, the 22-year-old Italian revealed he was hoping to use the opportunity to break out of the Renault 2.6L concept as an alternative to the 4.5L version of the popular F10-4 sports car launched in November 2014.

“The F10-4 is just going to offer a different model for the fans in their homes and the people who drive cars. I wanted to see the F10-4 get more like a sports car or something we have been trying for five or six years,” said the car’s inventor, who said he also wanted the car to appeal “to a wider audience” of people who have more interests in sport than racing or commuting.

“It is a beautiful thing – something more than a car – and I hope the success of that has an impact on the car as well,” he continued.
